Carotid Duplex Testing

The carotid arteries are vessels located in the neck, which carry the blood flow from the heart to the brain.  The narrowing of these arteries is called carotid artery disease.

Lightheadedness, dizziness, week-spells, near syncope, transient loss of consciousness, "mini-strokes", strokes, sat in partial loss of vision in one eye, numbness and/or weakness in one extremity, etc. are some of the symptoms caused by carotid artery disease.

In patients with these complaints, the Corotid Duplex ultrasound shows the normal and abnormal blood flow throughout the arteries of the neck to detect the location and severity of the blockages to plan further treatment.
