Abdominal Doppler

The aorta is the main vessel coming from the heart, which carries the arterial blood to the rest of the body.  This long artery takes the name of "Abdominal Aorta" as it travels along the abdomen down towards the legs.

In patients with hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, and other risk factors; the abdominal aorta may become hard and narrow (atherosclerosis). Over time, this artery may dilate and even rupture resulting in death. Most of the these patients are free from symptoms.

The abdominal Doppler allows measuring the diameter of the abdominal aorta, to follow this in the coming years, helping your doctor to make a decision regarding the best time intervene if necessary.
